There's just one thing that still confuses me; if you get a Tivo and you use Shaw (which requires a Motorola DCT to decode the encrypted digital channels), how does the TV decode the channels? Does the Tivo connect to the DCT via the serial port and control it, or does the Tivo go inline and actually decode the digital signal itself? Also, will current Tivos support HDTV?

And to you!

Sadly, our TiVo box is ailing at the moment, as I hinted above. We upgraded the hard disk last year via Weaknees, and we're now getting the dreaded Grey Screen o' Death.

The latest from Weaknees is they're prepared to do a low-cost relacement (not a bad deal, given their warranty lasts six months). We had some interesting shipping challenges when we ordered the first time, so I'm pretty motivated to see how well they handle this.

Holy, TiVo in Canada!!
Erin and I have a PVR box with our Freeview (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freeview), and I don't think we could go back now.

Merry Christmas to you and yours!
