The audacity of “nope”

Bookmark and Share

I love this story:

Back in January, Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) wanted documents that show Johnson ignored his staff when he blocked California’s attempt to institute tough greenhouse gas limits on cars and trucks. The EPA said no, in part because “further disclosure could result in needless public confusion about the Administrator’s decision.”

When I was working full-time in the world of political spin, it would just never have occurred to me to duck a perfectly legal request by saying it would just confuse the public. That’s a degree of audacity that I usually associate with men who sit stroking white Angora cats in front of giant illuminated maps of the world, watching intently as a double-0 is dipped slowly into acid.
