December 1946 — Ken Dryden is conceived when one sperm is singled out and hand-delivered to the egg by a physician identifying himself as “Dr. Maul Partin.”
1970 — Dryden is appointed to Montreal Canadiens. All other participants in that year’s draft are disqualified under NHL’s short-lived “last name must rhyme with ‘Ryden'” rule.
1978-79 — Canadiens win fourth consecutive Stanley Cup. Howie Meeker salutes Dryden’s outstanding performance, but admits his goals-allowed-average might have been higher if not for the snipers taking out any player from the opposing team who got within 50 feet of the Habs’ net.
2004 — Liberal government quietly introduces legislation making it an indictable offense, punishable by six years in prison, to run in a federal election against a retired goalie who has a law degree and is the president of a professional hockey franchise.
