So you’re heading to a conference where you’re holding a talk on suicide prevention among gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender individuals. What do you call your session?
Hmm. How about “Suicide Prevention Among Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender Individuals”?
Cool your jets there, Mr. (or Ms.) Way Too Explicit. According to the Washington Post, session leader Ron Bloodworth was told by a U.S. federal government funding agency to change the name of the talk. You know, so that it didn’t mention gays. Or lesbians. Or bisexuals. Oh, and not so much with the transgendered.
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) also suggested that organizaers add a session on one of the Republicans’ pet ideas, faith-based programs.
Now the kicker. A SAMHSA spokesperson said the order was actually just a suggestion. How strong a suggestion?
Weber replied: “Well, they do need to consider their funding source.”
Next session: Syntax Prevention Through Blackmail/Bullying/Hamfisted Pressure Tactics.
