You load a web site and – whoa! Look at that sidebar! A blogroll as long as your arm, archives stretching back seven years, a dozen cryptic badges and icons, RSS feeds from eight or nine other sites, most recent posts, favourite posts, fence posts, goal posts, Google ads, Amazon affiliate links, three pictures of the blogger’s cat, the last three songs that iTunes played on the blogger’s computer… this thing could fill twenty or thirty monitors stacked on top of each other.
It’s a clear case of…
sidebarrhea, n. – A disease afflicting blogs and other-content-managed web sites whereby a sidebar spews a seemingly unending stream of crap.
e.g. – “Pull-down menus can be a temporary cure for sidebarrhea.”
You’ve got a good point there, I like the name. By the way, you’re getting a little close to that point yourself, even without the cats. It’s just so damned hard to include everyone, isn’t it?
Whooee! That’s a good word you coined fer yerself – sidebarrhea. I reckon I might be comin’ down with a case. I ain’t been boogin’ but a short spell, mebbe ’bout a month, an’ I wanna do the right thing in the one good turn deserves another’n department so when sumbuddy links to ol’ JimBobb Sez (that’s my little boog) I put’m inta my boogroll. You fellers got yerselves a purty long boogroll, too. I been to lot o’ them there boogs you got listed but not all of’m so mebbe I’ll mosey on off an take me a little looksee.

Thanks for coming by, you two. Yeah, that’s one high-fibre blogroll over to your right. And it just got a little longer. (If only there was a polite way to say, “People I’m including in the vain hope they’ll add me to their blogrolls”…)
Meanwhile, sidebarrhea has hit the big time, making this week’s Cavalcade of Canucks at My Blahg. Thanks, Robert!
