In the comments to one of my blog posts from the distant past, Dr. Norman Schmidt has asked if anyone has a tape of Prairie Giant: the Tommy Douglas Story:
My sister-in-law, a devout CCF/NDP person, born and raised in Saskatchewan has asked me to persue the possibility of someone who had taped-off-the-air CBC story of “Prairie Giant: the Tommy Douglas Storyâ€.
She, of course, ordered the DVD directly from the CBC marketing service and was shocked when she got her cheque returned and the advice that the program is “No longer availableâ€.
Are you aware of anyone who may have created such a tape, and would be willing to sell a copy of it?
I look forward to your response.
Dr. Norman E. Schmidt

If you do, I’ll be happy to put the two of you in touch. Let me know in the comments.
So I thought, “Hey, my mom’s been a History/English teacher forever — maybe she would know.
Long story short, I think she’s actually bought and is sending me a copy. I’ll try to find out where she got it, and if there’s about to be one on my doorstep. Either way, I would be more than willing to help you out with this, Dr. Schmidt.
Thanks for trying, Catherine… and for the tip about the friendly neighbourhood video store/public library.
Meanwhile, I’ve been checking BitTorrent regularly. No luck there, I’m afraid – someone out there seeded it a while ago, but nobody’s uploading at the moment.
Aha, she too was foiled by the mean ol’ estate of Jimmy Gardiner!
However, she notes that Rogers Video has many a copy for rent. I was actually going to suggest your local library, but renting it is probably faster.
Now, aren’t you glad we live in a jurisdiction where fair use/fair dealing is explicitly granted to out-of-print works still under copyright? Ahem. :P
