The UltraHD 2 hour is the first Flip video camera to feature FlipPort™ — a proprietary Flip-designed connector enabling new add-ons options as part of the newly announced Designed for Flip™ accessory program.
From Steve Garfield (you are reading Steve Garfield if you’re interested in video and social media, right?), here’s news that the wildly popular (and simple) Flip video camera just became extensible.
Starting with its new 8 GB HD camera, new Flips will let you add an external mic, a battery extender, a wide-angle lens… even a pocket-sized wall projector.
This could be a very smart move for Cisco (which bought the Flip’s manufacturer a while back). It preserves the Flip’s legendary simplicity, while giving users a way to expand the camera’s features over time instead of leaping to another company’s products. And it could mean you’ll be able to get an accessory offering a capability you just can’t find on a competing product.
Yes. It’s a great way to keep the Flip simple, but give users the option for expansion.
Let’s see how proprietary the FlipPort is.
Lots of people, including myself, will want to use existing microphones, so I hope someone comes out with an adapter that allows a regular mic in port. Now that would be cool.
This is getting very interesting.
