The Globe and Mail is reporting that federal marriage equality legisation will be put off until the fall, as the Liberals aren’t willing to keep Parliament operating long enough to pass it.
“It very much is a priority,” Mr. Martin said as he emerged from a cabinet meeting.
…Just not enough of a priority to actually hang around and pass it. (When history passes judgment on your commitment to an issue, it tends to grade attendance pretty highly; Paul Martin’s transcript won’t be winning him any scholarships.)
So, at what point did calling something a “priority” come to be the Prime Minister’s way of ringing its death knell? Quite some time ago, right?
And will fab magazine be asking the PM for its postcards back?
Update: Maybe not yet. Apparently the Liberals have finally remembered what a handy wedge issue this is.
