Vancouver chokes as Burns burns

Bookmark and Share

Helluva homecoming, people. Vancouver is blanketed in an acrid cloud of smoke right now, thanks to a huge fire burning in the ecologically-sensitive Burns Bog, south of the city.

In my downtown office building, the air quality is awful. Coworkers have headaches, stinging eyes and sore throats. In buildings across the city, the smoke is triggering alarms. You have to imagine this is bad news for anyone with respiratory problems.

Of course, that’s on top of the heartbreak of knowing a priceless environmental treasure is going up in flames.

Amazing photos, Kumar. I never actually got to see the fire — just the end products. (Cough, cough.)
